Can we get an up date from some of you that became expediters between last June and say January of this year? Is it what you expected it to be? Aside from the million dollar pay checks, have you found your nitch? Did you start out driving for someone, or did you buy your own truck, and lease on yourself? If you are a driver, for an owner, are you going to buy your own truck, and if not why?

I think it would be kind of interesting to hear weather you feel you made the right choice or the wrong one. I think your response to this would be a big help for newbies on which way to go.

Early last year I was in the newspaper distribution business making a somewhat of a go of it, But it was alot of heavy and tedious work. But newspapers was in my blood, I had invested in my 3/4T van I have right now, but it was sitting 50% of the time, the bills were piling up and JuJu my wise faithful wife and partner said one day Ken that van has to work more. As I am one to watch the want ads just out of curiousity I kept seeing one for a certain growing company here in town so I applied, nothing and time went by, then 5 months later JuJu upsides me and says Ken, That truck has to work more, so back to that company for a refresh, Lo and behold I am expediting and didn't know what expediting was.
The company was great to us at first we started in what we were to learn the busy time of May. Lotsa runs, lotsa money life was great! We talked to others and learned what back hauls were cuz nearly all our back trips were empty but they paid 1.75/mile x 70%.
Then the slow times hit and loss of 2 major contracts. Time to move on, a year had past and we were somewhat a little wiser.
Now to my present company, back hauls, staying out, the REAL DEAL!!
This is honestly my first foray into the big time and we love it!
It can be said we literally fell into expediting with no real knowledge of it. We learned as we went and still learning, always will be learning.
Budgeting, patience, and learning the customers, the trends and good maintenance of vehicle are some of the vitals we've picked up on!
This web site has been a great teacher for us both and we thank all you's involved and it's members for the great stories.
We are planning to be at the Detroiter this year for the Expo hoping to meet some of you.

P.s. JuJu is no longer saying Ken that truck has to work more! Now it's like; Can't we have tomorrow off!!! *LOL*
