Hino Announces Emissions Surcharge for 2007

Hino Trucks announced last Thursday that the cost of adding new emissions-controlling engines and filtration systems would add $3,950 to the suggested retail price of its trucks next year.

All diesel engines will have to meet new emission standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency beginning next January. Commercial trucks will have updated engines and filtration systems which will include, among other components, expensive diesel particulate filters used to trap particulate matter emissions.

Most truck makers have announced price surcharges as a result of the new equipment. The increases will range from $2,500 for smaller engines to $7,000 for some Class 7 trucks. Heavy-duty Class 8 truck makers have said the surcharges could be up to $10,000.

“This announcement places our dealers in a very advantageous position against the competition,†said Nick Vermet, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Hino.
