Hey On another note, how do you do with the reefer and lift gate? We are getting one and would appreciate what we could expect as far as load opportunities, yearly gross. Percentage that you haul reefer freight? Any help would be greatly appreciated! We are buying the proheater, hope we didn't make a mistake, saw some postings where folks were not impressed with them. I understand they are actually made by Carrier. Would think they would be a great product! Thanks!

Well, in all honesty, what works for us may not work for you.

If you are going to partner with a company that will be providing you with reefer loads and send you places where a lift gate is necessary on a regular basis then spec'ing these items on your truck may indeed provide a generous ROI over the long term.

We have those items on the truck because we have several long term contracts where such freight handling/conditioning equipment is necessary. In any case, I figure it is always better to have additional capabilities to offer potential customers which in turn increases your potential market. However, there is a limit as we cannot be all things to all people.

We have not partnered with any company, instead we have our own customers that we deal with directly.

Hey Phil, you and Diane gonna stop buy next time in Nor Cal to let me see the new rig?The guys here at the moving company well really enjoy seeing!
Very nice observations, and ideas on ways to spread the word on our industry. As my trucks age, fewer drivers,or curious wanna be's approach.Which brings me to my next point:buying new trucks.Have been investigating recently,as my fleet age's,and I'm confounded to see the kind of return we saw only 2 or 3 years ago.To jump in for ONE $180,000.00 White Glove unit is one thing, but to make a commitment to rebuilding a fleet at that dollar amount seems insane.Even building my own,as some do,seems a risk at this point.
I would seriously caution anybody with big ideas about making the big splash in this business to take baby steps.
No regrets here, and I'll be around to take the good abuse I get on this site for a while, but it seems the carriers are starting to sqeeze, and it will not be the pot of gold it used to be.
Hope you and Diane are well.
