A bank robbery suspect has been arrested after police say he led officers and state troopers on a high-speed chase that reached speeds over 100 mph Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the suspect was arrested after a truck driver helped box him in on Interstate 85 in Gaston County.

A Wachovia branch on West Sugar Creek Road was robbed and witnesses told police that the suspect got away in a black Honda Civic. North Division officers caught up with a Civic just before it got onto Interstate 77 North. They tried to stop the vehicle, then began pursuing when the Civic sped away, said CMPD spokesman Officer Robert Fey.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers backed off the pursuit as about six State Highway Patrol cars joined the high-speed chase.

The chase wound through Mecklenburg County north toward Huntersville, then onto Interstate 485 toward Gaston County and finally on Interstate 85 south of Charlotte.

That's when troopers radioed the driver of an 18-wheeler on the highway for assistance.

"The (Civic) was basically wedged in between the concrete barrier and the truck," Fey said.

WCNC-TV's helicopter showed the black car trying to drive away. In the process, the car struck a trooper's vehicle. Troopers then surrounded the car and arrested the man. Investigators planned to question the man at CMPD headquarters, Fey said.

Officers haven't released the man's name or said what he has been charged with.

Pretty cool, in my opinion.
