HazMat

As an experienced driver (OTR 1.5 million plus miles) I have not had to have a HazMat endorsement for the last 9 1/2 years. The company hauled secret cars, test vehicles, show and pilot vehicles so we didn't need the H or X.

My question is this: Do any of the expediter(s)hire without a HazMat endorsement? Can you make a living without the HazMat?

As a convicted felon, ( 40 years ago) whose civil rights were restored (less handgun) in January 2005, I don't know if I would pass a criminal record check yet. I'm not sure how long it will take the government paper pushers to get all the necessary forms filled out and filed with the proper entities. Which of course means I may not be able to test for HazMat until I can get this headache figured out.

Any suggestions or comments? Anyone in the same boat or have legal info I can use?

All of the major players in Expediting require Haz/mat endorsements. You might be ble to find a smaller carrier that does not haul haz/mat.
As far as you conviction goes I think with all of the emphasis on security for haz/mat loads you might not qualify. Best bet is to level with your State DOT and the Federal DOT in your area and ask them.

For some reason, I believe Express-1 does not require a HazMat endorsement. Please check to make sure.
