Have Questions On Expediting

i have been looking at diffrent expediting questions and answers for the last 4 months or so. i am thinking about getting into the business in a few months but have a few questions of my own. i live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. are there any good loads/companies around the area. Second is there any place for someone with NO cdl and no hazmat to get a job in expeditiing. don't wanna get a cdl or hazmat unless i know the expediting is worth it. i have driven a 16ft truck for my bro on and off for about a year so i do have experincing driving. if any owner/operator is hiring please post on this message or email me at [email protected] i would like to drive for someone who has a truck on with a company to see if it is worth it or not before jumping into it.

can i make it running single in the business after all expenses and the slow months? everything i have read on expediting has been half good and half bad for single drivers.( ex. pay, companies, area, etc) somone tell me what i can expect running solo before. tell me the goods and bads. all and any info would be helpful. post here or email me back.

It!s highly unlikely that you would get a position in expediting without a CDL and a Haz/Mat endorsement. All of the expediting companies require that ,even for 1 ton vans.Last week I had 4 trips,3 were Haz/mat loads. It!s not that difficult to obtain the cdl and haz/mat licenses, but you will need to study. The area you described is not bad for a solo driver, and starting out driving for someone else would be a excellent move on your part. That way you have no major investment,so if you don!t like the lifestyle (and it!s not for everyone) you can walk away without any losses..Good luck..

We run for a smaller company right now, and they don't haul any HazMat. We used to run for LEA, and they leave it up to you whether you want to haul HazMat, or not.

Unless you plan to drive a van, you are going to need some sort of CDL -- Class A for the D Units; Class B for the C Units. In order to get a Class A, you would have to go to a CDL school; i'm not sure about the Class B -- you might be able to just 'wing it.'

You are absolutely correct in 'testing the waters' by driving for an owner, FIRST -- please look back through ALL the posts concerning advise for newbies for even more good pointers!

You only need a class B license for a D unit. A class E unit requires a class A license. A lot of exp. co. now require a certain amount of exp.
