gross weight of cargo containers

Hello all, I'm not sure this is the right forum, but thought I would ask anyway.

Does anyone know what the maximum allowable weight is for a 20' cargo container? As in, if you were ordering a "full container" load of a product...how much weight would that be. Assuming of course the weight limit is maxxed out before the space is maxxed out.

Thanks,

The only container company I have dealt with is Cronos, www.cronos.com
The site has their specifications. Others are probably about the same, depending on what type of container you need to use.

Weight is tricky . If the trailer is not loaded properly , even though it is within its allowable maximum weight it may be overweight on one axle and somebody will pay the fine or shipment will be delayed . Some states won't let an overloaded vehicle leave the scale house until it is legal . Containers are notorious for being overloaded .

my first trucking job was containers i would say about 60% were over weight. like someone said you can be under the limit and still be over on the axles.

A 20 ft. container weighs over 5,000 lbs. empiy and can legally hold over 23,000 lbs . Then you have to figure the weight of the chassis or trailer it's on . I saw something in your other post about a 3/4 ton truck and a trailer with a 20 ft. deck . If you planned hauling containers with it or you don't have a CDL forget it .

Thx for the info everyone. I've pretty much got what info. I need for now.

The truck and trailer combination I was referring is not what I had in mind here. I was actually going to use it to deliver the products that we get from the containers (in small qty.s).

The help is, as always, very much appreciated,
