Freight stuff

In an earlier post I asked about personal stuff to be carried in a cargo van. I got some very good answers. I didn't realise I should carry a spare engine, spare tranny, spare window glass and other goodies. My question now is, what should I carry for the freight end of the business?

Thanks :+ :+

Just put the engine right next to the tuba .. :)

Seriously, each carrier will have their own list the will give you for required equipment. Usually you will need straps for the E-Trak, hammer and nails, and some pieces of 2x4 for blocking freight, etc. Also, I recommend you have some small bungee cords or netting for small items. Many also recommend a roll of shrink wrap in case you get a pallet of loose, small items or boxes. A towing strap is good for pulling the front skid to the rear.

And most important... something to point out where the rear of the van is to stop forklift drivers from running into it..x( x( x(

I've seen some really cool devices that plug right into the reese hitch receiver under the back bumper. These things are like a nerf bar for forklift drivers to crash into before they get to the expensive places. If I were a van or Sprinter O/O I'd much rather have the disgruntled forklift pilot destroy a $30.00 gadget that is easily replaced than smash up the back of my van. I'd call that a smart investment!! (I'd carry a spare one of those too!!) - Scott

X1. I'm way ahead of you there. I don't have a van. I don't have a contract with a carrier, but I do have a nerf bar. Seems I heard that idea someplace before. The nice thing about my current job is I have access to steel, and the welding class next to me. :+ :+
