I have a 2003 Ford w/ 7.3 diesel. This means it has two batteries and a humongous positive battery cable junction on the battery under the hood. The portion that bolts to the positive battery post is cracked and from time to time becomes loose and will not start until you twist the cable and re tighten the bolt. This has gone on for several months and has gotten really tiring.I have priced a new cable from Ford for an unbelievable $244.00.
This week I had an inspiration on how to redneckrig a fix. I tried it and it worked great.
I bought a short thick battery cable and attached the clamp end to the battery, I disassembled the old cable where the two old cables are bolted together and inserted the existing bolt through the bolt hole end of the new cable. Replaced the brass nut onto the bolt and tightened it down. Used cable ties to keep everything stationary. It worked great. The starter whirls faster than before. The Ford dealer estimated the parts and labor cost to fix this thing at $450 - $500. My fix cost $5.18. Perhaps this will help someone with a similar problem.
