Schedule for rule affecting carriers, drivers will be published ‘in weeks,’ agency says
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is expected to release a date for the introduction of significant new truck and driver safety rules “in the coming weeks.”
FMCSA’s Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 regulations, which will tighten safety standards for trucking companies and drivers, are scheduled to be implemented starting this summer, but news reports Friday indicated parts of the rules may be delayed.
The American Trucking Associations last week said in an e-mail newsletter to its membership that portions of CSA 2010 would be delayed until 2011.
Many truckers are concerned about the impact the new rule will have on their operations, and especially their drivers.
FMCSA officials told trucking publications that CSA 2010 would not be delayed until 2011, saying more details would be released in an upcoming Federal Register notice.
