Seasoned Expediter
It is usually my fate to deliver in North Dakota or Minnesota when its coldest then be in Texas or Florida when its too hot. You can imagine my excitement when things finally aligned properly. I got a dream of an assignment (for me), a three stop delivery with the first due in Baton Rouge LA on Thursday morning. The other stops were Miami and Boca Raton, in that order, on Monday morning. This translated to me as four days (paid hotel) to make my way down Florida!
After a smooth delivery in Louisianna I drove to Pensicola FL. I spent a few hours on the beach. I found a great spot with a huge free parking area with bathrooms and food.
The next day was a short drive to Panama City Beach. I again lucked into a free spot (sprinter) at a public lot and had a great time at the beach before spending the night in nearby Panama City.
It was a bit further the next morning to get to Daytona but well worth it (I was going sort of that way anyhow). I knew that driving on the beach was allowed there but I guess that is one thing you have to see to really appreciate. Needless to say parking was not a problem. I saw cars and trucks of all sort cruise by with the occassional golf cart but for some reason no other expediters.
The final hotel was located 5 miles from the Miami delivery so I considered South Beach but somehow Fort Lauderdale got in the way. My free parking ran out there when I paid a hotel $5 to use their lot. There was no such disappointment with the beach. Like all the others it was great, with the added attractions of passing yachts and kite surfers.
The fun ended Monday morning with the deliveries but all in all it was a trip of a lifetime (mine) that I will never forget.
DISCLAIMER If you are researching a career in expediting please understand that this was NOT a typical run. Your results may vary. Professional driver on open course. Possible side effects include sunburn, rapid heartbeat, and sand in your shorts. If the sand persists for more than four hours please consult a shower.
