Fix For Windshield Condensation on Freightliners

Some of you may have this problem: the dash defrost vents on medium duty freightliners sometimes seem to blow a little no matter what vent setting you are on. If it is very humid outside, this can cause condensation on the outside of the windshield that is very annoying. After trying a few different ideas, I was in Home Depot and saw these HVAC vent air deflectors for home use. They are clear plastic and have magnets on each side to attach to a vent. I got a couple of them and was amazed at how well they worked on the dash of my truck. The magnets cause the air deflector to stick right to the dash with no rattles or movement and the deflectors move the defroster vent air away from the windshield and into the rest of the truck. No more condensation. The air deflectors also make good dash pockets for items like gloves, paperwork, etc.

They do not obstruct the field of vision through the windshield at all. They just block your view of the hood a little.

Thank's for the tip!!!!! We run a FL106 and like all cheap Freightliners we have the same problem but I have been covering mine with those little job magazines from the truck stops (gives me somthing to look at when I sit idle for too long).x(

Once again Friscomike you have a great solution to a Freightliner problem. Let me say I have delt with that little problem all summer. I hate it. Thanks for the idea.

Since you have become a member on here, I have just sat back and waited for you to tell me how to fix my issues. You are right about 90% of the time by my measures. That 10 % where you miss? It is normally because I don't want to try it. LoL!

Thank you for the kind words Raceman. My delicate trucker/lawyer feelings have been hurt since I got negative feedback for my post about stupid CB chatter.

As for nifty suggestions for making your truck a more comfortable place, the RV websites out there have some fabulous forums with great information about all sorts of things relevant to expediting. A lot of those full time RVers don't have anything better to do than sit around and think up small improvements for their rigs and post on the forums. A motorhome is just another medium duty truck with lots of the same issues as straight trucks.

Google trailer life, motorhome, good sam. That will get you started if you're interesed.

We just laid a towel across the dash over the air vents.

I tried a towel, but I guess I have pretty determined vents because my windshield continued to have condensation even with the towel in place. I also tried the rear floor mats from a floor mat set I have and that worked okay, but I still condensation around the edges of the mat. It's pretty ridiculous to struggle that much with COLD air in the middle of summer, but I have been extremely pleased with the vent air deflectors.
