Fedex Ground Contractor using Fedex DOT Number

There are three new white semi's with the contractor name on the door, but bearing the Fedex DOT number.

Does this mean Fedex owns/leases the trucks?

Does Fedex require you buy/lease the rig(s) from them?

Is there any place to verify a Fedex Ground contractor?

When you sign on with a carrier, and run under their authority, their DOT numbers go on the truck.
