Facebook makes money from you whether you 'shell out' any, or play the games, or not. Data is what deep pockets will pay for, and guess who has a lot of it? Every time you 'like' a group, or product, you add a bit to the profile that advertisers value most. Click on any of the ads, or 'allow' any apps to access your profile, and you've added more to the perceived worth of your browsing habits. Let them track you from site to site, and you're a goldmine, lol.
Facebook 'connect' has been blocked from tracking me here on EO - the only one that my 'do not track' program found trying to do it.
If it doesn't bother you, that's ok - but some people don't feel comfortable contributing data unknowingly. Others may even like having ads 'tailored' to their interests [based on sites visited, locations logged in, organizations 'liked', etc] It just depends on your level of comfort with anonymous people buying & selling data about you.
