Greetings, all. Newbie, first post here.
I live in Pahrump, NV, about 70 miles NW of Las Vegas, right on Nevada Highway 160 in the northern part of Pahrump. I'm curious about expediting opportunities based in the Las Vegas/Southern Nevada area. I am semi-retired, looking for something to do part time that would allow me to see a lot of the country and earn some coin at the same time, as I have seen very little of our great country during my nearly 56 years of life. Expediting might fit the bill.
Currently, I hold only a class C driver's license. Please post any insight that you have on the Las Vegas/Southern Nevada market for class C only expediter drivers.
Also, are there any fleet owners seeking safe and excellent drivers with perfect MVRs such as I to drive vehicles for them? How do I hook up with such fleet owners?
Would it be worthwhile for me to attend the CDL class A course offered at my local community college? Would doing so open more doors for expediting opportunities for a newbie? I do have the opportunity to attend the CDL course beginning right after New Year's and have the cost of it paid for entirely by a career connection program in Pahrump. The course lasts for seven weeks. The first two weeks are in the classroom. The last five weeks are out on the road with the instructor and a total of four students sharing drive time in a tractor-trailer (53' trailer) rig driving all over Nevada. Students graduate with their CDL class A and all endorsements except for P (passenger) and S (school bus).
TIA for your replies.
