A topic in the Women's View forum (http://www.expeditersonline.com/dcforum/DCForumID25/20.html#3) gave me pause to think about how expediters' life and work on the road differs from other peoples' life and work at home.
Expediters can plan a long trip in a few minutes and become instantly grounded and operational in a new area. Others spend hours planning the trip and spaz out if they get lost or disoriented at their destination. Expediters get lost too, but most remain calm, laugh it off, and know how to quickly get back on track.
Expediters are continually developing new solutions to solve new problems. Some of the inventions they come up with to make life or freight-handling easier in their trucks are simply brilliant.
Expdiders who do fingerprint loads (where you handle the freight yourself) have ongoing flashes of brilliance as they encounter and overcome odd-ball freight situations.
Expediters are among the most responsible people in the transportation industry. When a shipper absolutely, positively needs it there overnight (to borrow a phrase), it is often an expediter that provides not only the service, but the peace of mind and freedom from worry the shipper seeks.
