Envy

Some of the posts on this board from our Canadian neighbors in the "Great White North" seem to be chock full of what could be described as "American Envy" A recent post by Doghouse Express describing American owned vehicles as being decreipt and unsafe with bungee corded loads and 2x4 bumpers was hilarious! Doghouse paints an amusing picture of Americans as being uncaring killer hillbillies with little regard for other motorists. This post and others from our Canadian brethren trying to pick apart things US is always good for a chuckle. It's usually composed in a somewhat stuffy, Victorian prose which sounds like a stern lecture from a grandma. Perhaps their slavish devotion to a long-obsolete, useless monarchy 3000 miles away from their own shores gives them that look-down-their-nose prissy attitude of effete snobbery. Couldn't be that there's a little bit of jealousy there, eh? Most of the US expediters I know HATE to go to Canada with a load, so rest assured that many of us are only in your pristine paradise for as long as necessary, and back out as soon as possible. As far as the American people having the same type of attitude towards our cousins to the North, actually it never comes up, because most Americans don't really know you exist. A trip to Canada means Niagara Falls to most of us in the US, and we don't give your whole country a lot of thought beyond that, except to maybe someday invade and annex it to the US. That would probably only take a long weekend.

As far as the unsafe US vehicles that enter the pearly gates of the Eden known as Canada, please excuse the ignorant yokels behind the wheel, just as we'll forgive those cars we see down here with Ontario plates doing 85 mph on our interstates shortly before they're pulled over by unsympathetic American cops who don't realize that it's normal behavio(u)r around Toronto. It would seem that the Canadians would at least be a little grateful that they are motorized to begin with because it doesn't appear that there is a Canadian nameplate on their own vehicles. All foreign owned, eh?
(Except for the Beaver 500 and the Maple Leaf Maxi-van)

In closing, please cut us some slack, folks! A few more years of Democratic Party leadership and we'll turn this country around, and finally be able to walk the Socialist path that our friends up North have taken. LOL

Just Another Expediter: I would like you to go back and s l o w l y re-read the post from Dog House Express. I don't think that he/she is a Canadian at all. Look at the use of phrases like " The Canadians" and "They have the most". I think this person is an Ameri
can and they are commenting on the deplorable state of some of the cars seen daily on the roads and highways of America. I believe the proper name is Ghetto Cruiser.

As for your suggestion of invading Canada, it has all ready been attempted on three previous occasions, 1812, 1837, and 1866. All of these incursions resulted in defeat for American forces, of course I would not expect you to know that, as most American history courses only mention the victories, not the defeats.

Lets try to respect each other's laws and regulations, and realise that we need each other, in many ways. Perhaps we could get Dog House Express to respond, and explain from which side of the border they are viewing this discussion. Jim Bunting Field Editor..

I guess I am a rarity. I love going to Canada. They have a good cost of living even with the GST tax and the majority of the people have an excellent attitude. The Canadians come to the states for clothing and other items that are cheaper here and Americans go there for prescriptions and surgeries that are cheaper there. I've never had a bit of trouble at the border and ther's a lot less pollution there. Canada keeps itself much cleaner and the Canadians don't blame everything on the truckers like they do here. Even the 401 has chevrons on the road to give motorists an idea how far to stay behind a vehicle. Both countries have good and bad. The biggest trouble with both is when each goes to each other's country and forgets that they are the foreigners and guests in that country.

Well I have to break the " bad news " to you all , I am a Canadian .
It is not my intent now or ever shall be to bash the United States .
It seems some individuals have a glaring attitude when confronted with free speech , at least it's in your Constitution !!!! .I married a beautiful American girl some 23 years ago and have two wonderful children that just happen to have Duel citenship . My suggestions that the Canadian Vehicle Safety Program reduces the likely hood of an unsafe vehicle being operated on the highways that
may threaten others is my point. We can argue til hell freezes over
which country is best, but I wouldn't venture into that discussion .
I can only say this ,without one another we'd be very shocked to learn the weeknesses each country has. It's not the politics that
makes things right in this world , it's people respecting one another and offering their support to strangers .When was the last
time you failed to let a truck enter the highway from an on ramp because you had to check the plates first ? Every time I see or hear
of an accident I pray as I go by for the victims , and I'm not what
you'd concider a religious person. You all have an opinion ;especially "Xpediter" that makes me chuckle .Gestopo tactics ,SS,Nazis ???? Where has this poor boy been ?? Yep ! Yep !
Yep ! Canadians can laugh too, and at themselves. Did you know in Winnipeg (Manitoba)there is a Mall that houses 2 more submarines than the Canadian Navy has at there disposal ?? In the thinking of the Xpediter we probably purposely put them there to hold you ransom some day when you come shopping???? God I love that idea .

I truly enjoy going to Canada, the cities are generally clean, the cost of living is not that high (when u calculate the exchange).the Canadians are good and decent folks and you usually don!t have to worry about 15 years olds walking around with guns.and drive by shootings.I have been crossing into Canada for 13 years and only once had customs search the truck.Just treat them and the DOT folks with respect and you should have no problems,,,,also if it wasn!t for Canada we wouldn!t have TIM HORTONS..

Yeh, we may have lost in the 1800's, but we got nukes now...don't mess with the US. Maybe if we just ran down a few customs officials every time we go up there we'll feel better.
Now didn't that sound silly. Canada is another country, it's supposed to be different!

Jim....I loved your story of the ole "Bungee cord" Ford you followed from Kentucky into Ohio. I keep wondering if he was heading home to the Great Northern border with his new prize truck. Maybe he wasn't a Kentuck Hillbilly but was what ever Southern Canadians call their version of a "Redneck". We sometimes call them "Snowbirds" down here. Keep up the humor and good info we sure need it. Keep em flying low, gang!

In all seriousness, I will now point out that many vehicle wholesalers from Michigan, Ohio, and New York come to Ontario to buy vehicles at the weekly auctions. With the current rate of exchange, alot of newer cars and trucks are going south, so much so that a friend of mine who sells used cars, has resorted to buying vehicles in Ontario, and advertising them for sale in the USA on the internet. Even with the duty, transportation costs, and exchange, he is still making some money.

By the way we don't have Hill Billies in Canada, and any person who can afford to go to Florida, and pay for everything in US dollars, is RICH, no two ways about it. Jim Bunting Field Editor...
