I changed my air filter in my 2005 Sprinter today and now my engine control light is on and won't go out. Kinda like I've fallen and I can't get up. Anyway. Has anyone ever run into this before??? I hate to feed my dealer any more than he'se got already but I guess I'll be going there tomorrow.

2005 as well...my light came on when the outside temp wire got pinched..I just waited till I needed dealer service and had the tech reset the computer as it is a minor fault code...no charge...also read the manual

Hi there. Most auto parts stores have a machine to read the trouble codes on your truck. Some have machines that will tell you even deeper info about the trouble. It will tell you what is triggering the light. If the light only flickers instead of being steady, it is almost assured that it is an old problem stuck in memory. It's sure cheaper than paying the usual one hour labor at the dealer for them to diagnose it.

A friend of mine changed the air filter on his 2005 Sprinter and broke the wire leading to the air filter sensor. His engine light came on so he went to a Sprinter dealer who told him that if you don't have a special tool to remove sensor at the top of the air filter box then it is easy to break that wire. He had to replace the whole wiring harness to fix the one broken wire.

I lucked out on this one. The computer reset itself overnight and the light went out and stayed out. I have a code reader for my GM vehicles but nothing is easy on this vehicle. I really really like this truck but I regret not getting a GM cutaway.

HI

You can reset the computer by disconnecting the batteries and letting the truck set overnight.Or by cycling the key 10 times. If you broke the wire off of the air sensor you can fix it by pushing an eye glass screwdriver through the back side of the sensor then pull the pin out through the back. You can buy a new pin from any Ford dealer and probably from any Dodge dealer. Then just recrimp the pin to the wire and push it back into the sensor until you hear a click.Beats $1100.00 for a wiring harness.
