o/o till i die
I run both a E unit and a D unit
I have to tell ya the d beats the e every week by the time I take out the operation cost.
This week for example my d unit grossed $4,250.00 dollars
about 3,000 total miles deadhead included.I deadheaded a total of about 500 miles and i burned about 350 gal of fuel
or about $800 worth
My E unit is older its a 98 volvo 660 with about 1.5 million miles
it groosed $6,450.00 on 3,500 total miles 150 miles that was deadhead
but it used $2,000.00 in fuel or at least the driver took 2k in advances plus they hit something in the road that flattened 4 tires and busted one air bag so that was another 1,000.00 in repairs.and it seems to me something happens every week with the tractor that cost at least an extra $500.00
so I guess the bottom line is they both work out about the same but the straight cost alot less out of pocket money to operate.
But I am not just an expediter this last week I only took 2 expedites with the straight and none with the tractor.
the advantage the tractor has is I can load it for several runs sitting at the computer for maybe 2 hours a week with very little deadhead.
the straight on the other hand requires hours of face time each day
and its rare that I will book more than 1 trip each day
so as a fleet owner/self dispatcher tractors are easier to load with very little deadhead but at the end of the week the profit seems to be a little more for the straight with fewer out of pocket expences
as far as who can do the job of streching I think there is an outfit in ft.wayne IN that will do it right.but someone else on here will have to tell you the name I cant remember.
But you should consider buying the one for sell by jeff wolford on here I seen the pics its well worth the $6,500 asking price heck if you go out and buy a new box it would cost around 7 or 8k its a former landstar truck and he is selling cause he got a newer one with a bigger sleeper. If he still has it in a couple more weeks I will buy it myself and put it to work
the box is in great shape so before you ruin your tractor try it yourself and make the used truck pay for your strech job use the box and sell the volvo to me when your done with it I know 900k miles is alot but ive had three of these volvos and got 1.5 million on each
I have a 1990 volvo with 1.4 on it now so I am looking for another to use for a year or 2
good luck with what ever you decide
