DOT for Sprinter??

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of opening a new company. I own one Sprinter and my goal is to find loads for other Sprinter owner operators as well, and hopefully in the future to load bigger equipment.

However, some of the bigger load boards require a DOT # to work with them. My van's GVWR is 8,500 lbs. and my understanding is that to get a DOT I need to have at least one piece of equipment with a GVWR of 10,001 or higher. Is there any way that I could still get a DOT? I'd rather not get one because of the extra headache but it looks like I can't avoid it. I have experience in managing trucking companies but have never opened one. Please help!

Is it a requirement for any of the companies you'll be brokering thru, if not then you won't need one.

well for interstate commerce are you not suppose to have one regardless of the vehicle you are using?

You need to investigate being a broker and have a brokers license. It's to lengthy to try to do that and gather info on a forum. Besides that you will get a lot of info from people who don't know the process.
