Canada Do you all know what a speed limiter is ?

There are posts asking contractors if they have had speed limiters put on their trucks . The speed limiter is not an added accessory . It is just a changed setting on the ECU . It is not required to be permanent and can be reset after leaving Canada .
I have been making regular trips through Ontario the last few months and saw no noticeable effects on traffic due to speed limited trucks . Smart drivers run slightly below the maximum speed so all trucks are not going the same speed .

Quite right that todays trucks the speed limitation setting is electronic which was one of the factors in the govt decision to proceed as it was easy to do and little cost (what's a $100).
Not like the old days (60s,70s) where the limiter was a governor which limited rpm and affected performance in all gears except the good ones that allowed for lower gears to be reved to redline.

So where do you get this so called limiter? Who installs it? Is it permanent for $100.00?
I am pretty interested in this I do like going to Canada never had a problem there the food and people have always been great especially Cardianl Ont. Exit 705 on Hyway 401.

The limiter is built into your truck (if newer than 2000 model year). It is in the electronic setup program in the onboard computer (ecm) and can be changed by any dealer who has the correct plug in and program to alter your trucks computer settings. it just takes a few minutes to do and some will do it for all of $50 or even less (some dealers still want a hours charge hence the $100 mentioned). The limit for Ontario and Quebec is 105 kph or 65 mph.

The ECU also limits the RPM's so you don't over rev the engine
I know mine is set at 2900, at 65(top limited speed of my truck) I'm turning 2100
My truck is leased through Penske, Not sure if the Rev limiter is on the truck from the factory.
