curious about expediting

I have been an o/o since 1981, but always with t/t. I am curious about the world of bobtails. I currently average about 1.60 to the truck, deadheading included.(my own trailer) I know the fuel mileage, insurance, mileage taxes, etc. would be different. How much could I expect to make with a bob-tail? I like to hustle, but prefer 2000 mile or longer loads so I can sleep when I need to, rather than spending all day at the docks and having to run all night. Is expediting mostly JIT stuff?

Expedited Freight is like an ambulance service. The run can be 12 miles or 1200 miles. You never know what is coming next, and that is part of the appeal of this lifestyle. For a person with the right personality type expediting can be a perfect career fit. The type of runs that you speak of however, rarely occur in the world of expedited freight. It is all just in time, and it is all unpredictable.

Now about the bobtail (this is humor by the way, get ready.....) I wouldn't recommend using a bobtail for expediting unless you want to load freight into your sleeper, and every load would have to be put in your sleeper 1 box at a time. Not very efficient and you wouldn't have any place for nappy time. I'd probably recommend a straight truck.

Best of Luck - Scott

bobtail??

Okay, I think I meant straight-truck.:) Thanks for filling in some of the blanks for me, Scott. It doesn't sound like the sort of work that I would be good at.
