COOLEST day yet in expediting

Ok, so expediting takes you to interesting places and during the down time you get to see and do cool stuff. Today I got to do a really cool thing. I went to the Medal of Honor Museum in Chattanooga. Now, this is a cool museum for what it represents. In and of itself that is enough. What set today apart was during my visit there was also a visit by Sgt. Charles Coolidge, a WW2 Medal of Honor recipient! What an honor it was to meet him. He spent almost 2 hours telling us of his experiences. That was time spent in the presence of a true hero and a true patriot.

I have read his Medal Of Honor citation in a book I have. I wonder what goes through your head when you are 25 meters from an enemy tank and your bazooka fails to fire.

He told us about that. The tank gunner fired at him 5 times. He was able to watch the tank and move behind the trees so he was several yards from the actual point of fire. Then he yelled at them "Are you ready to surrender yet?" I've met many many soldiers and veterans but never before a Medal of Honor recipient. We owe them so much gratitude. I will definitely be returning to that museum some day even though it is very small and I saw all of it.

I am going to have to check it out.

I was at the D-day anniversary in France two years ago. While there I met some very interesting people that got me interested in the living heros in our country. Unfortunately I was there working and didn't get to talk to them long. You had a great opportunity to meet one.

This reminds me of two things:

1. How amazing our service people are for their dedication and their ability to "put everything on the line".

2. How great expediting is to be able to experience everything about this beautiful country.

At our meeting of the Sons of the American Revolution, on 11/18, I had the honor of sitting with a WW II veteran. He didn't talk about how bad the war was, as he & the Army, advanced across Europe. He talked about how the German citizens welcomed them as liberators & saviors. And how he has been able to visit the WW II Memorial, & how he had been back to a couple of the towns he helped liberate, at their invitation, to help celebrate their "liberation day".

It is a shame that the current crop of folks, under 50, probably have a hard time finding Germany on a map.

New to the industry and this interests me a lot. Being able to go where 18 wheelers are prohibited. Not even allowed to go in most scenic turnoff rest areas just for 4 wheelers.

If I'm often in more interesting places then truck stops I might do more photography.
