Continuation of Flatbedin's thread

I see where Flatbedin's thread kinda went off-track & rather than being post #50 on an off-track thread I wanted to post & also to add a little bit.

I now see that you live in Ft. Wayne. I totally agree about being home vs in Pa all weekend. $70 blows chunks for all day of your time. So I'm w/ ya on that. I saw where some said to give 90 days & while that's a good rule of thumb, I'm quick to get out of a bad situation & have left companies after one day if I can see it's going down the road to nowhere. The three major companies I've been w/ I stayed for a bit but in the end if someone's not paying me, giving me brutal runs or a few other things I'm gone. The track record of a company means something here. I've taken brutal runs w/ otherwise good companies because that's part of what we get into. I also had paycheck issues w/ a company that otherwise paid well & on time, so I'm not talking about if there's a quirk w/ a good company. I'm referring to if things don't look good right off the bat.

Living in Ft Wayne I'd definately give EGL a shot. You would have at least two offices trying to get you freight (Ft Wayne & South Bend). The thing is South Bend is our #1 office nationwide. So having them as your #2 office is going to be great for ya. I'm not so sure about how much Detroit & Grand Rapids will be looking out for ya but you've also got Indy, Cincy, & a few others down there.

Plus, you can deliver locally in the Ft Wayne area if you want. You won't make quite as much money as being over the road but you'll be home every nite if you find that important. Plus you can go over the road if ya get that itch. I'd definately give EGL a call.

I don't have all the information so I might be missing some things here. From the information I have of ya though I'd say cut your losses now & get to a better situation.

With that in mind, here's my post on your other subject again:

Holy Jumpin..
I noticed you were 50 miles from home when in Coldwater. If you're right there I have 3 letters for ya.

"E" "G" & "L"

That's EGL. I don't know what others have said yet but I've seen the authors & I'm guessing Geo recommends EGL. I would have to agree totally. I'd be excited as all get out if I lived down there & wanted to be over the road. I'm saying this to ya having left the company. I left on good terms. I simply have other interests.

With that said, you are in a GREAT area for those guys. You won't have just ONE office looking for freight for ya. You won't have TWO offices looking for freight. You'll have THREE FLIPPIN OFFICES looking for freight for ya!!! I live in Flint & pretty much wanted to be local. I work out of the Detroit office but the Grand Rapids & South Bend office would call me to asking me if I wanted to go here, there, & everywhere. I'm in a cargo van to boot. I can only imagine if I was in a C or D unit.

I usually recommend EGL, UPS, or Freightforce to someone. If you're so close to Coldwater I'd say EGL is your ticket. You sign on w/ them & you can be either local or over the road. I've seen paychecks of our over the road guys & they make bundles. If ya wanna stay local & be home every nite you can do that too.

Now, there is a downside to em. At least w/ the Detroit office. MONITOR YOUR CHECKS CLOSELY. Like any big company there's a fair amount of turnover. I got it resolved but I just recently got paid for runs I took in September. I never felt anyone was trying to rip me off, just a mistake in the payroll department due to someone new working there. Also, it's not like they didn't pay me anything along the way, they'd just miss a run here, run there, etc. So watch your paychecks closely. They'll get it resolved if there's any problems.

So yea, in your case call EGL. I'm not sure which of the 3 offices is closest to ya, but give em a call. I'm not saying you'll never sit, but if you have 3 offices looking for freight for ya rather than one you're chances of sitting are going to be a lot less. Good luck to ya.

Take care,
Danny

Sometimes ya wonder how, but things have a funny way of working out for the best.
