When Caterpillar(CAT Quote) reported a strong third quarter this past week, and when mining-equipment maker Bucyrus did the same, investors took note.
Caterpillar especially painted a rosy picture of 2010, The heavy-machinery maker saw its third-quarter profit cut more than half, as sales tumbled by 44%. Still, Caterpillar easily topped Wall Street's consensus and said it is seeing some encouraging signs like an increase in demand.

while Bucyrus(BUCY Quote) boosted optimism around the heavy-equipment sector by reporting a better-than-expected order flow.

One thing good about the low US buck it has been a boon for heavy equipment makers even Kamatso is busy right now...

The heavy equipment builders should do well with the stimulus monies for parts and service of which some may filter down to expediters. All these road building projects means parts required for rock crushers, bulldozers, front end loaders, excavators etc.

Euro banks like UK and CDN banks have more regulations in place than US banks and therefore were not as open to the problems. This doesn't mean not affected but only certain divisions bought and in limited amounts so the losses were lower. Those Euro banks with heavy investments on this side of the ocean were definitely caught for billions but not bad enough to sink them. Most Euro banks are doing rather well. ING has a large presence over here.
