Hi All,

Thought I'd share this with the group. About a month ago I was under load from Dayton OH to Detroit. The check engine like on my FL70 came on (Blinking) and it started running really rough. I pulled over and checked what I could out. It was not running hot and had good oil pressure, made the decision to limp it to Stoops Freightliner in Lima OH. The CAT computer said I had a bad #3 injector (motor had 298K). so i said replace it. When the mech opened it up he noticed that the #3 plug off of the injector harness was bad, and was sending insufficient voltage to the injector. He clipped the end and put a new one on. 400$ later I was on the road and truck was running fine.

Well on Thurday night I was pulling into the shipper at a Chicago location and the same simptons magically appeared. I bailed out of the load and limped my rig to the Chicago IH Truck Shop in Huntley. They put the computer on it and it said -open circuit #6-. So they took the lid off and sure enough the #6 portion of the harness was bad. So instead of clipping it and replacing only that end we replaced the whole harness. WOW what a job, all of the rockers have to come out etc. The price of the harness alone was 530.00.

So I guess what I am saying is, if this happens to you go ahead and replace the entire injector wiring harness the first time. It will cost a little more up front, but u will end up saving about 500 in shop fee's plus you won't have to turn down a load do to mechanical failure for a 2nd time.

Hope this helps someone.

This is a great lesson in expediter repair. Down time costs, so get it fixed right the first time ;) The mechanic that repaired it the first time should have told you to replace the whole thing, or at least warned you that it would need to be replaced. I have cobbled things together to get back on the road but I never leave it that way long. Fix it right, or don't fix it at all should be all of our motos.
