Not enough truck for the job. It might do it but will be worn out in no time.

The main problem is finding a carrier who will accept this vehicle. Most want you to be able to haul 2000 or 2500 in a cargo van. I have owned a 1/2 ton 6 cyl. before. Great lightweight van, but the legal max you could haul after all your stuff will probably be about 1600 lbs. In my opinion, a 1 ton extended van is going to be more versatile for hauling freight. Two skids and you'll have an extra 30"-36" for your bunk.

I have to agree with Jefferson on this one. It took a month for me to find the cargo van I wanted and got a used one for $4488. It is a Chevy Express 1-ton with extended wheelbase. I have a 30" wide bunk with 2' of storage beneath it and still have room for two skids. I can haul around 3400lbs so sometimes I get straight truck pay for heavy loads. I also know that I get loads that 3/4 ton trucks cant take so they lose out.

Wait and get the right truck and you will not regret it. I started out in a regular wheelbase and it sucks if you get a two skid over the weekend load. Unless the freight is durable and low to the ground you have nowhere to sleep.

I would also suggest the Chevys over the Fords if you get an extended length truck. The Fords just "duct tape" an extra 30" on the back while the Chevy adds the extra length in the middle. Instead of having all that weight hanging off the back of your truck the weight is more evenly distributed.
