Box/Van Size Vs. Flats

What size Box/Van do you run?
On a typical run, how full does the van get (floor space)?
What types of loads do you carry (General/vague)?
What is the typical load weight (Less truck's weight/GVWR)?

Does anyone run a Flatbed?
<Same questions>

My wife and I run team in a "D-unit", a 40-foot straight truck with a 22-foot box, 20 feet of which is available for freight. It's rare that we fill the truck with freight. A typical load will be one to six skids. While the truck can legally scale 13,000 lbs as required by our carrier (FedEx Custom Critical), we rarely haul over 10,000 lbs. Freight type ranges from a couple skids of industrial powder, to automotive parts going from one factory to another, to custom-made furniture going on display in a high-end setting. To date no one has shipped a General in our truck, or a Major or Private for that matter. :)

I have been running in a extended van and my typical run is has been two skids but I have had a few loads where I have had to put some of the load in the passenger area. On one day I went and picked up 5 loads before dropping anything off. I was running local in the Detroit area at the time. My average load weight was 500 lbs.

My ride is a 3500 Savana cutaway single rear wheel with a 10' box. I fit 3 skids in easily. Most of my floor space is eaten up by that sort of load. My average load is 1-2 skids with weight on average 1200 pounds. As for the type of freight it is various. I've hauled everything from cloth to aircraft parts.

For those running Straight trucks,
Would you say that the majority if not all loads (With exception to military units) would have fit into a 16' box (8 pallets)? Are there times that you've needed space for "2 more", thus in need of 20'?
