2 Cups self-rising flour

1/4 Cups shortening or lard

1 Cup buttermilk

1 tp of salt

Preheat oven to 400 F

Add the shortening to the flour and cut in with a pastry cutter until well blended. Pour in buttermilk and mix until a dough is formed.

Place dough on a lightly floured board and knead a couple of times. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter.

Bake on a greased baking sheet for 10 - 12 minutes.

Good Grief !!!!! I'm gonna ignore that comment bout Bob Evans. That joint ain't EVER made a "real" biscut & ain't gotta clue what a biscut is. Biscuts concocted outta Ohio ??? hahahahahahahaha :)

Don't pick on me Bryan. I'm under a LOT of pressure here. It's a good thing I'm not a postal worker.

Last weeks news, on top of everything else, nearly put me over the top. But I'm better now.

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup butter flavor crisco ( I use crisco cause lard is bad for me )
1 cup buttermilk

METHOD: VERY IMPORTANT
Lightly fill a 2 cup flour sifter; add baking powder, soda and salt.
sift into bowl and cut in 1/3 cup crisco till very fine. You can't mix too long at this stage.
Pour in 1 cup buttermilk, mix very lightly with a fork or spatula. Dough will be very moist. Flour your hands and then gently form a loose ball and place on an ungreased cookie sheet or cake pan and it makes 7 good sized ones. Flatten a little. Bake at 425 10 to 15 min. They will be light in color, you can test with a tooth pick.

Thanks. I may give it a shot. I can hold my own in the kitchen but have never tried baking. I think Bryan kind of challenged me.

Barney,
I always use self-rising flour to make biscuits. The baking power is mixed in better than you can do it while blending and kneeding the dough. Also you don't have to remember to buy baking powder.

The self-rising flour also browns and thickens better while making gravy.

Just my opinion.
