Can anyone tell me the best company to run solo with living in Harrisburg, Pa? I would like to run with FXcc, but hear you can't make $$$ running solo, though some say you can.

Thanks for the help

What size unit are you planning to run.Pa and the Northeast+ New England will keep you busy with FDXCC

True. I'd give more credence to the larger companies running solo if they stayed primarily in the northeast. Also, there are some companies that give a new england bonus of like $75. You should do pretty well if you could get that and run a couple minis a day.

I'd say where you live has much less to do with it than where you will or won't run. There has been mention in other threads of people applying for a driving position but refusing to go to Canada, NYC, Texas or anywhere ending in r or c. If you will go where the freight takes you then you will do better than a lot of people. That said, I've always heard FX is much stronger for teams than solos. There are solos making it but I know one quite well who is a HARD runner and just got by with them. He's taken the same work ethic and same work level to another company and making FAR more solo than he ever did at FX. I'd include P2, X1, TriS and TranStewart in the suspect list when checking companies.

I've run solo with p2 and tri state. I see alot of pa with tri-state. plus i'm doing good there as a solo due to the fact that i think they have a slight shortage of teams which helps us solos. I drive a d unit.

Thanks for the help. I will most likely run with a 22' box. A FXcc driver once told me' I would make a boat load of $$$ driving a "c" unit around NYC & New England. Does FXcc still have "C" Units?. I guess they have a 16' box?

Thanks

Honestly, I think you'd move just as much with a c-unit as with a d, with the benefit of your truck not being as long. I haven't had too many probs in New England with length, other than narrow turns and such. Though, I've never been completely filled there either. And if you're planning on staying in that area, it may be something to consider. The shorter your truck is, the more friendly the terrain... especially Jersey.

Fedex still runs C Units, tarrifs and pay for the New England and NorthEast area are usually somewhat higher then the rest of the country due to a toll booth every 200 feet. If you deliver into NYC they pay a additional $50.00 to cover the bridge tolls.

the c unit would be good in the northeast. I run the northeast in a d unit and do good. I never fill up there either. Me personally I like the d better becuase I have a little more room in the back and i can haul a few different loads. Just me personally If I run the northeast for a week i'm ready to get to the midwest or the other way around. I like changing my scenary from time to time.

Again Thanks.
I live in western MD now, but moving to Harrisburg soon. I hope that living in PA, I will have the option of running both NE & West. I use to live in NYC as well, so it doesn't bother me to be in the city. I recently resign from United Airlines as a International Flight Attendant so I'm use to dealing with customs

Again thanks for the advise,
Rich

If I were only going to be running the northeast I might look into an Argosy C unit with a 16' inside length box. That would be the most operator friendly configuration you could have I think.
