Bad Eye.

I'm not sure if this has ever been posted, but here goes....

I have a bad left eye, 65% blind in it since birth. Has the DOT given any leway to this area of the physical at all? I'm an experienced expediter, and had to cheat on some eye tests to get my card. I don't like doing this, but I feel that my right eye has compensated for the left my entire life, and that since I have to work a little harder to see everything going on, it make me a more alert driver.....about 300,000 commercial accident free miles.

Any help or suggestions?

Thanks,

Kurt

Very cool. Who do you drive for, and what state did you get the endorsement through? I'm in Florida, and moving back to Michigan July 2nd. Was gonna get my C again, and expedite in a van, or find a truck under CDL. I have the same thing you do. Supposedly, there's supposed to be a new surgery out there to restrengthen the eye, and bring back some vision. Expensive.

Thanks for the answers. One more thing: is freight running decent so far this summer, or has it dropped off? It's been 4 years since I expeditied, and I was just wondering if the freight is still out there.

Kind of along the same lines, but not quite...I have a guy driving for me who is deaf. I never thought it would work, but he has been a driver for years. He can't hear when you talk to him, but he can read lips pretty well. According to him, he is legal as long as he can hear sirens from emergency vehicles, which he can. Pretty wierd.
