I own a small fleet of Straight trucks we have our own dedicated customers and are looking for backhauls back to the midwest, have tried sighning up with a few Big companies and that dosn't seem to work. How does a small co. like mine get the word our to shippers/Brokers?? I have tried the leading load boards and most of them is big truck freight or the loads are WAY to cheap LTL cause the broker figures you are looking for a 53 Ft. LTL load.

Younglobo,
Ever thought of calling the expediting companies and have yourself listed as a partner carrier?? How many trucks do you have in your fleet. Maybe we can help?

If you are looking for dedicated lanes, much of that is ran at a cheaper rate. The other issue depends on your size of trucks. As mentioned, you can be put on a carriers list so you may have the opportunity to cover loads that they can't.
If you operate a fleet, you can also use the Alliance.
They are specifically for fleets rather than a single truck operator.
They are at www.gps411.com

Find the forklift dealers (new and used) in the areas you want to backhaul from and see if you can get any forklift deliveries to where you want to go. Many forklifts can be carried in a straight truck and this kind of freight seems to pay around .70 to .90 a mile.

Fruit and vegetables are also an option. I almost got half a load of watermelons a while back, but I wound up hauling stovetop vent hoods instead.
