What is the going pay rate for a solo Driver of a D unit?
The truck is company owned, therefore they pay all operating costs to the truck. I assume its a percent of the gross, of the load?
Thanks

Reddog, It's usually between 30 and 40 % 30-35 if your staying local
and 35-40 if your going to be over the road. Just try to cut the best deal you can. Also remember your going to be keeping logs and doing scales in a 6 wheeler.

best of luck,

For what its worth (because I am not sure how to confirm it) but the story I get is.............At the upper end of the scale for experienced/dependable drivers is 40% of total $ paid to the truck - **including fuel surcharge - if the owner buys the fuel, 60% if you buy the fuel.

That is the story I hear from other expediters that I have talked with that I meet on the road, at the docks or at truck stops - so I give them the benefit of the doubt that they are not all BSing.

I have probably talked to 15 different "D" drivers and only one guy said he was getting 32% - but he said that he has only been in it for about 6 months, the other drivers had at least a year and a half and some have been doing it for 10+ years.

**Including fuel surcharge means that if the company pays $1.20/mile to the truck with a 15% fuel surcharge - that truck is getting paid an extra 18 cents a mile for a total of $1.38 per mile so you must take 40% of $1.38 which is 55.2 cents per mile - NOT 40% of $1.20 which is only 48 cents per mile....- again, thats the story I hear but I do not vouch for its accuracy, then again, I have no real reason to doubt it.

Fr8 Shaker said it best~ "Just try to cut the best deal you can." and good luck!
