If you had the opportunity to ask God for one thing for your business, what would you choose?
Maybe the first thing that comes to mind is money. Or maybe it’s success. These things would probably help your business.
But there’s a better thing to ask for, one that Solomon requested thousands of years ago:
Scripture tells us that “the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’” Solomon didn’t ask for wealth or success.
Instead, he asked for “a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong” (1 Kings 3:5, 9).
The chapter goes on to say that “the Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this” (1 Kings 3:10). So God granted Solomon not only wisdom but also prosperity for him and his kingdom.
We too can ask the Lord for wisdom, just as Solomon did. James 1:5 urges us to do so, saying, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
So ask the Lord each day for wisdom in your business. Ask specifically for God to assist you in identifying key goals. Then ask him for wisdom in achieving those goals. Look at your calendar each day, and be specific in prayer over each meeting and business decision. There isn’t a single aspect of your business that won’t benefit from the wisdom that comes from God.
Be faithful to daily bathe your business in prayer. God will answer prayer, and you will be amazed with the awesome, and often unpredictable, answers for your business. Wealth and business success will likely follow. But even if they don’t, you’ll be able to be at peace knowing that you’re running your business the way God wants you to.
