Are there any expo companies that use company drivers?

Are there any expediting companies that employ company drivers? How about OTR companies that use straight trucks (company drivers)? I would feel better working for a company as opposed to being at the mercy of an individual owner as far as truck maintenance is concerned, secure in receiving my pay fully and timely, plus getting medical insurance. Easier for an individual to flake out than a company. I have a CDL A (prefer straight truck though), hazmat, clean record, live in Chicago area; if any of that makes a difference.

My opinion, and this comes from the 3 new discussions you just started up (Company Drivers-Benefits-Fleet Owners Income), plus seeing that you've been registered here for over 2 1/2 years, your mindset is not really wrapped around being "self employed" just yet.

The three discussions are more geared towards questions that would be asked and answered during a "Job Interview".

My advice, take some time (a month or so) and actually read this board to make up your decision as to whether you want to step into the "self employment" world or if it is the security of a weekly paycheck as a company driver that you are truely seeking.

Hey Brisco, thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.

Can understand why you would feel that way, but it's not so much the security of the weekly paycheck but security of getting that check owed to you. Just seems easier for an individual guy to not pay you, not maintain the truck, etc...; as opposed to a company. Worked as a self employed/independent contractor (different field) in past and liked it and prefer it.

Secondly, Health/medical insurance is so freakin expensive. It would be nice to have some kind of descent affordable coverage.

Been a member for two plus years, decided to hold off expediting at that time because financially I didn't have reserves to cover lean times etc.., where now I do. I was also probably not in the right mind set for expediting. At that time it was more of a reactionary decision than a desire decision (though I did want to do it). I was unemployed at that time, step away from eviction, - so it was more of a desperate decision than a ready decision. Now I have a drive job I'm not miserable at (don't enjoy it but not miserable either, just rather be on the road), plus while not rich, have more than enough in savings/reserve to cover me for while comfortably.

Lastly, I Love working out/weight lifting. May sound stupid, but to give up all you achieved could be mentally crushing/depressing. I had major concern about getting to a gym regularly. Realized that it's just not feasible to do that. To carry the needed equipment in my truck would mean adding extra weight (thought might be a prob), but I have come up with a way that requires carrying minimal weight and almost just as effective.

So don't have a prob with self employment in itself, but thats why I was asking about company driverexpediting or straight truck OTR, and thats why I held off expediting earlier. Thanks.
