I have had 2 APU's on this truck in 8 yrs. The first one was an AUX fron Alumi-Bunk. Constant repairs til the APU division went bankrupt. Did a lot of research when I needed to buy another one. Seen the Wal-mart trucks with the Tri-Pac APU's and started checking them out. Figured Wal-mart wasn't going to pick junk. The Tri-Pac unit is very quiet, easy to operate and maintain. I have an 84in sleeper and the unit heats and cools great no matter what the outside temp. It saves a ton of money on fuel.

i've had experience with Carrier and now with Tri Pac. The carrier had more functions on the control panel, and you could use it to "limp" if the truck alternator quite. The Tri Pac has less control, can't be run while engine is on ( no limp). However, the carrier was a lot louder than the tri pac. Also, tri pac uses espar heater as opposed to the electric with carrier. I love the espar, it will heat my house, and it's silent.

Regardless of what you buy check with OOIDA finance dept. They had a program that I got into where the gov gave you back 40% of your purchase price in return for the usage no off your hour meter. And with a good credit score they financed it at 6.5% .You pick the unit, the dealer, then get thier money. I picked a Rigmaster, which aside to being nosier than others, has performed well. ( A friend put 16,000 hrs on his first one, then bought another one ). They went belly-up a few years back and the new owners have made the right improvements. I wanted auto-start and the components inside the trk took up about 1/2 the space of some others. The dealer doing the install and service is Very important in an APU purchase.

Propane APU ? Wouldn't that be a pain in some bridges or tunnels. Yeah ,I know RV's have propane bottles but I thought the other day I saw a tunnel that you had to have the bottle inspected prior to entering it.
