APRS anyone?

Greets all;

If you are wondering, APRS is a HAM radio thing. You can go to www.aprs.org for info. Or google "aprs"

Anyone out there running APRS in their truck? I decided in July to put it back in my truck after all my radio equipment was stolen out of my POV. My Father-in-law, and my Trucker Buddy friends use it to track us and keep up with our routes. If you are using this, drop a reply and tell us yor call sign and what you are using for equipent.

Be safe and have fun!

I don't have it set up yet but want to. I'm thinking about the new D710 and an Avmap G5. I'll see how much Santa brings and then get the rest.

I don't have either, just a plain KW 9000 multimode 2 meter rig which I used once since on the road. I don't have room for my Heathkits (kinda' takes up the entire sleeper) or my drake (new/used t4b and r4b) which actually will serve a dual purpose of heating the sleeper and letting me talk, so I am saving for one of them fancy hf/vhf/uhf rigs. I haven't decided yet, TS2000 looks nice but I haven't check at the ARPS capabilities of it.

I am curious though about transmitting telemetry through APRS and simple messages. I heard it can be done but I have not heard anyone actually doing it or read anyone who has. For example (maybe this is far fetched) I would like to transmit truck telemetry at times to my wife so she can see my truck actually get 9.5 MPG with the message to feed the cats. Any idea what I am talking about?

That your cats are only allowed to eat if you get at least 9.5mpg???? :+
