I forget the name of this extra census, but there's another one, far more intrusive, that gets sent out in off-years, the American Community Survey, or something like that. This one asks things like how many toilets you have, what time you leave for work and how long your commute takes, just crazy-***, personal things that are none of the gummint's business. There is no authority in law for gummint to compel anyone to answer, many people throw them in the trash, and I have yet to hear of anyone being prosecuted for doing so.
I did hear that many people were making up crazy answers, like having 47 toilets or something, and I heard warnings that if you do answer, don't make up crazy stuff because they will prosecute that.
They do treat it like the census, though, with warnings that it's compulsory and such. But like the census, many ignore it. In fact, the Constitution requires Congress to enumerate the people, but doesn't impose any obligation on individuals to fill anything out, so even the waning that it's compulsory is bogus.
