Any demand for full size pick up trucks?

Hello all. I am trying to get my foot in the door in the hotshot business. I am an independent operator trying to get my foot in the door in the expediting business. I currently own a full size Ford F-250 Superduty pick up truck that I am considering using as my vehicle. My question to all the experienced veterans out there is: Is there such demand for this? I plan to look for loads on internet load boards and maybe contract my services to some local courier and expediting companys. I currently have a full time corporate job that consumes my time Mon - Fri. I plan on doing this on the weekends to supplement my income and if I find out that there is such demand, will consider doing it full time. My question is, with insurance, maintenance, and fuel costs being my major expenses, would it be worthwhile to pursue this? What would you seasoned veterans suggest? Any help would be appreciated!!

Phil, Expediting is a vocation that requires a full time commitment 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Expediting part time, at least under the authority of a major carrier, is not feasible. Expedite freight happens at all hours of the day. Putting ANY kind of restrictions on your availability will drastically restrict your revenue potential.

And since I'm being Mr. Sunshine so far... Major Expedite companies really don't use pickup trucks anymore.

But - there are still options. Check with local plants, manufacturers, or even appliance retailers. A never quit attitude will always turn up something for a person that wants to work.

I think that you will find what you are looking for - only on a much smaller scale, and pretty close to home.
