And another APU question.

OK say you buy or have an older truck. How old is to old to put a new APU onto it. and if your going the "take the old APU off and put it on your new truck route"(and to beat the other smart asses,it's the one just north of the Cross Bronx)as opposed to leaving it on the old truck.

How long should you plan on keeping the truck to make the mounting and dismounting cost worth it?

How much will the extra holes subtract from the trade in value.(because we know dealers use any excuse to not give you much at trade in.)

I feel that an APU is a very critical tool to help manage fuel consumption and be a more responsible business owner on health and environment issues .(I also feel this last paragraph sounds way to much like a politician and might have to wash my mouth out with soap for writing it.)

Seems like you answered your own questions with the last paragraph. I would think that if you're going to have it on the truck for less than about 4-6 months, then the installation costs might be better delayed for the new truck, otherwise the sooner you can get it installed the more cost effective it'll be. It's not really a question of how old the truck is, it's a question of how long you're gonna run it without an APU.

It is my belief that most APU mounting brackets will match up to exisiting bolt spacing on your frame rail. Some of the ones I looked at would space out just right for my truck. Of course, if for some reason you had to shift it right or left to miss another item, then you might have to drill different holes. Another thought would be to make a custom bracket that you mount on exisiting holes and then make it wide enough so that you can mount your APU to it anywhere you need to.
