I have a 6.0 in my 2006 pick up, does it hurt to let it idle at times to keep warm. I see most of you use portable heaters but I don't have one. I was going to be making a few trips up north. Any secrets or a better way to do it? Thanks

You should be ok for a night or two as long as you make it a point to check your guages often. Depends on the engine if its a gasoline or Diesel, usualy idling on and of with a gasoline engine is o.k. after a few hours you should drive it a few miles this keeps the o2 sensors and cat from getting carboned up and getting too hot.
Diesels, as long as you can bump up the idle to arround 1000 - 1200 rpm so they dont cool down you should be fine. Remember a diesel will cool down quite a bit just idling.
One thing, if you have a exhaust filter it will load up and you will have to regen. EPA regs local laws also limmit or prohibit idling while parked and the fines are hefty add into the mix engine noise.
Add in the cost of fuel it might be cheaper to find a cheap hotel.
