I am having some transmission issues on my 2016 Hino 268.
My check engine light and "Check Transmission" display originally came on with code SPN 5894 FMI 3,switch 4. Code is only on the allison side. Nothing on the Hino display or on my code reader for Hino computer.
I replaced the pressure switch manifold inside the transmission, and changed both filters. Was nervous about about doing. But seemed to go well.
The test drive went great driving forward, but as soon as I shifted into reverse, the problems returned. Now with a code on the hino display, P073D.
I notice that when I put in reverse there is a short delay before the back up alarm triggers, and then the "Check Transmission" message reappears.
I also searched for nicked wires and dirty connections. I found a worn wire for the PTO which I taped up and secured, the pto works fine, and I verified that the TCM connection is clean and dry. I changed the reverse relay with another relay. Check transmission fuses.
Been struggling with breakdowns recently. It busy time of year and the down time is killing me. The truck was running great on test drive after the pressure switch replacement. Was pumped, thought I fixed it, then the reverse killed it.. Spent $500 on parts, filters and fluid. I don't want to keep throwing parts at it. And clearing codes on the Allison side was hard.
I am trying to decide on the best next step for service. Will the Hino dealer have the diagnostic tools to pinpoint this, or does it need to go to an Allison mechanic? Can I drive there? It goes great in forward.
Would appreciate any advice.
