Considering that Universal Health Care is high on the B. Hussein Obama list of socialist goals, here are some things everyone - especially the Republicans in the Senate - might want to consider before drinking the Health Care Reform Koolaid:

Fact No. 1: Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers.

Fact No. 2: Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians.

Fact No. 3: Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries.

Fact No. 4: Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians.
  • Nine of 10 middle-aged American women (89 percent) have had a mammogram, compared to less than three-fourths of Canadians (72 percent).
  • Nearly all American women (96 percent) have had a pap smear, compared to less than 90 percent of Canadians.
  • More than half of American men (54 percent) have had a PSA test, compared to less than 1 in 6 Canadians (16 percent).
  • Nearly one-third of Americans (30 percent) have had a colonoscopy, compared with less than 1 in 20 Canadians (5 percent).
Fact No. 5: Lower income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians.

Fact No. 6: Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada and the U.K.

Fact No. 7: People in countries with more government control of health care are highly dissatisfied and believe reform is needed.

Fact No. 8: Americans are more satisfied with the care they receive than Canadians.

Fact No. 9: Americans have much better access to important new technologies like medical imaging than patients in Canada or the U.K.

Fact No. 10: Americans are responsible for the vast majority of all health care innovations.

Conclusion. Despite serious challenges, such as escalating costs and the uninsured, the U.S. health care system compares favorably to those in other developed countries.

These are just highlights, but here's the entire article with sourcing, details, etc.

We can't let a little thing like facts get in the way when we're getting the "change" we wanted. After all, what are facts to a fool?

Well, not sure about the facts. But, how often do you go in and the tell the doctore what you have diagnose what your problem is and ask for a certain drug? NOT saying that anybody here does that, but its became a common factor here in the USA and thats why us Americans are more in agreement that health care is better. Even though there may not be an actaul problem, but a lot of people here in America has become hypochondriacs and run to the doctor to get their fix to make them feel better.

That is where the problem lays here. Doctors get so many patients with this condition, yes it is a condition, they have no choice, to keep us happy, they give us what we want, not all doctors will do that, but the ones that do is trying to push as many patients thru to make it to the end of the day, making a lot of money from these people being hypochondriacs.

I'm sure most all of us know what Hypochondriac is, but for the ones who don't

When were we in England 1976-81 the Brits paid the following taxes to get thier "free" health care.

50-98% income tax.
17% V.A.T.
$4 per gallon for gas

That did NOT include massive taxes on beer, wine, cigarettes and ANYTHING else that they could tax.

That is all in addition to the property taxes, school taxes and taxes on the taxes.

For the most part if an item cost $1 in the U.S. it cost $2 in England.

Great value. "Free" Third World Health Care

Just pay all of the above.

To back up what Mental Giant said....since moving here I have seen so many pill poppers...every time ya go to a Dr. here he has yet another pill! Whats with that?

Granted tests are a little faster to get to here....unless its urgent as defined by the doctor NOT the patient, its the same time span. I am thinking once you have a PLAN down here they'll throw every test in the book at you...and being a private system there is money to be made....good motivation for pushing you thru the tests....

I'd really have to question about being heathier over all...because people are people...if they don't take the tests you can't force them...Maybe Canadians are just too lazy to take them...or maybe there is more money down here to take them once they find out you have a Plan?

I just wanted to clarify something also. Go see your doctor and have check ups and if your feeling not quite yourself or you think something might be wrong. But, let the doctor earn his money, tell him/her your symptoms and let him/her make a decision on what the problem is, if any, and ask what your options are.

I say this because, drug companies will pay a doctor to push their drugs. And a lot of doctors will prescribe you something you may or may not need, just to make more money. If the drug the doctor tries to prescribe is the only option, I guess you don't have a choice, unless you think you may need a second opinion from another medical professional. But again, make sure you know what he/she is prescribing, know what the possible outcome will come from taking this drug. There are a lot of side effects now days from many different drugs. With that being mind, always make sure your doctor knows all and I mean all past medical history and family medical history.

Everybody here probably knows most all this, I just thought a helpful reminder wouldn't hurt.

You don't get that in Canada....Doctors get paid by the Provincial government....They do get samples...but severe charges if they get caught taking kickbacks.

He just said what all the lazy sheepeople want to hear. I got really scared just after the election. They were talking to kids on the news about Obama. The kids were "gushing" about him. When when one little girl was asked what she liked about him, she said while grinning with love and gushing, He is going to "take care of us" for the next 4 years. What a very bad thing to teach a kid. I hate to think how that kid is being raised that how little chance that that kid will ever become self-reliant. Layoutshooter

Yeah, thats why I have great respect for my grandfather, even though he was a drunk. He told me something one time I didn't understand, until I matured and understood exactly what he meant.

He said, don't rely on other people, because they will eventually disappoint you.
