Am I making a huge mistake?

Have you considered teaming with an experienced driver for about 6 months. That way you could get your feet wet and learn about the business. Then go and team with your wife and train her. When my wife and I started we spent months trying to figure out this crazy business. Sent from my XT1254...

    A veteran rookie!

Why do you want to do this? How much do you make a year doing what you do now? Do you get any benefits? Do you want to sleep in your own bed at night? Can you be on the road for weeks at a time? Do you have a good nest egg for slow times or breakdowns? I talked with a ground driver doing a...

    HI from... The oil guy!?

Don't be so sure about the net profit potential of a T/T vs S/T. Maintenance and wear and tear can be less on an S/T as the truck will never be running at 80,000 pounds. 6 or 10 tires vs 18, 4 or 6 sets of brakes vs 10. IRP Plates are less and there is usually no Heavy Vehicle Use Tax. I believe...

Truck Driver Now Maybe Cargo Van?

Very few expedite companies (if any) have directional dispatch. Getting home every weekend will be hard no matter where you live.

And you can bid lower and undercut the bigger carriers because you have little or no overhead and still make more per mile.

I agree, but it needs to be an all miles rate. My deadhead last month was 18%.

So $.90 + FSC would be about $1.08 for loaded miles.

Is you $.90 an all miles rate? I'm not in a van but FedEx pays $.85 + FSC (currently $.18) for loaded miles which is $1.03. They also pay FSC on all deadhead miles and I think $.10 on all deadhead miles after the first 50.
