    More Home Time?

For our two years of expediting, we would stay out about 8 weeks and go home for 2-3 weeks. We stayed home the whole month of the "slow" month, July. It's been so slow for us this year dispite staying between Chicago and New York most of the time and setting the truck governor to 65 mph for...

Coffee Makers and how often do you replace them??

We started using coffee bags (like tea bags). I think they are about 17 cents a piece at Walmart for Maxwell House. Just heat up a microwavable cup in the microwave, then put it in my 12 volt heated stainless steel cup. I just add water to it and it lasts about 2 to 3 hours, maybe get 3 cups out...

    RoadCheck 2009 ,June 2-4 !

I had a "free" inspection done in Texas 2 months ago. The highway patrol put the sticker on my windshield ABOVE the wipers. Naturally it rained that night and the wipers pulled half the sticker off. I pulled it off the rest of the way and taped it with clear packing tape below the wiper blade...

    all things under the water

You have a great website Ken! I started diving 6 years ago. I used to dive the quarries of Ohio and Lake Erie, but that's too cold for me anymore. I've made about 175 dives, mostly on liveaboards in the Bahamas where it's nice and warm. My wife got certified two years ago and she's made...

    Scuba Divers

My wife and I are SCUBA divers, but we only get out once a year on a liveaboard. Reefer Hauler, I think that's a Freudian slip, it's Truk Lagoon!

    Truck wash FYI

There is a truck wash located in the Pilot on I-80, exit 223 in Niles, Ohio that just washed my D unit for $35 +tax + tip, including under the hood. They did a great job. That's the cheapest I've found. My truck was so dirty, I forgot what color it was!

    Illinois 55 limit debate

Well, so far no one has come up with a logical, reasonable explaination why the speed limit is 55 in Ohio and Illinois and right across the border in Kentucky and West Virginia it's 70 for trucks. To make it more puzzling, these high speed limit states have more mountains, curves and grades than...

    SMOKERS, For your consideration

I'm a former smoker. After 30 years of smoking I quit 10 years ago. Now I find the smell of cigarette smoke repulsive. Everyone has a right to smoke and everyone has a right to breathe smoke free air. So smoke all you want, just don't do it around me. I believe that 99% of all smokers would...

    irp plates

My Ohio IRP plates for my straight truck were $590 last year. I had to make 3 trips to the IRP center. I think you have to get your plates in your state of residence. The first thing they asked me for was my last phone bill for proof of residency which I didn't have, even though I called and...

Cool places to take a straight truck or semi

I mentioned in an earlier post about taking the truck to Mt. Rushmore and someone said you can take your truck to the Grand Canyon and park on the south rim and take a shuttle. I thought this might be a good opportunity to start a thread about cool places you can take a straight truck or...

What is the strangest load that you did as an expediter?

Oh, I forgot about the one block, yes, one city block run that we hauled 500 pounds of plastic strapping material in Denver. We ran 75 miles to pick it up. What was strange is that both places were wharehouses and they had a bunch delivery trucks at each place! We also picked up 85 42" LCD...

What is the strangest load that you did as an expediter?

How about: -250 pounds of McDonald's Monopoly game pieces (probably had a million dollar winner in there!) -A helicopter engine -Half a million bucks of silver nitrate -4 bricks, yep, we even picked them up at the airport, they were important bricks! -Sheet metal for a satelite LA to...

    Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain

FYI, we had some time to kill last weekend and decided to stop at Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse with our D unit. You can even get an 18 wheeler in both of those places, but I wouldn't do it during the busy season. Stay on Rt 16 truck route and you'll be OK. We were lucky enough to get a full...

    ATBS accounting

Does anyone know anything about the accounting firm ATBS? Are they worth the monthly fee? I think they charge about $65.00/month.
