The State of Expedited Trucking: 2018 Forecast

Conditions for the year feel good and if January is any indication then this year will be great for everybody!

    Is expediting feasible?

To profit that kind of money you will need to buy a few straight trucks and put teams in them.

As long as it is in good shape you will be fine. You wont be able to haul a lot shipments to the auto plants but you can do okay.

I am pretty tight with FYDA these days, and have not heard of many owner ops walking away from their trucks. I am sure there are a few, but I don't know if that number is any higher than usual.

I think the reason that there are many slightly used trucks are on the market because fleet owners feel like the need brand new equipment to keep their teams on board anymore. So its three years and flip 'em in order to pull the equity for the next down payment.

Just curious, what kind of return on investment would you be looking for? I think a solo owner operator can buy a slightly used, very clean straight truck and be quite successful.

Cargo Van Need info concerning expedite brokers

We pay percentage but it is not a static percentage, on average 79% is paid to the truck. Our deductions are oc ac and tracking for a total of $39/week. We only have one or two open spots for vans currently.

Cargo Van Need info concerning expedite brokers

Guys, guys... it's Tenpoint, and we are the best carrier in expediting (other than Load 1 of course). Mr. Smith, we do not and never have had any company vans. I hope that multi-carrier thing is working out well for you.

    Solo Straight Truck Companies?

I have seen it work with non-household teams... just not over the long run. It is typically not a lack of earning money that causes the breakup, people just have trouble getting along over a long period of time. Teams should be making $40,000-$50,000 each driver fairly easily, that is pretty...

Cargo Van Is there no future here?

It's not for everybody, that is for sure. It all depends on what your personal needs are.

Buying second Truck... Tractor vs Straight Truck

It is probably easier to manage a couple of straight trucks vs. tractors but it all depends on how you plan to operate them. I would talk to the carrier that you are leased on with and see what they suggest.

Low prices are killing this month!ppl bending over like crazy!

Time is money! It is hard to get shippers and brokers to understand the importance of insurance when nothing really bad has happened to any of them yet from a claim. It WILL happen, it's just a matter of time. It is supply and demand. Load count is way down right now, just like it was last...

5 companies is way too many and they will usually all have the same customer base so it really doesn't gain you anything.

    Cheap Gas

I was traveling through the Houghton Lake area when the gas wars was happening. My brother shot me a text saying that gas was only $.48/gal so I made a quick pit stop to see what was going on. It was the middle of a snowstorm, 45 mph on 127. Anyways, I can't tell you what the price actually...

    Saying "no" to cheap freight!!

A lot of the 3PL and 4PL that you are calling brokers are anything but. These company's all are adding value to their customers supply chain and in most instances are under a monthly or yearly contract that pays by dollars saved or a flat monthly fee plus processing fees. Actually there are...

    Cargo Van Insurance rates

And in the case of a large liability or cargo claim, lawyers could/would then seek damages from the carrier and probably the owner operator as well right? And depending on what ignorance/negligence is determined both could be in a world of hurt.

    Cargo Van Insurance rates

John, What is the risk to the individual owner operator that is unknowingly (or knowingly) carrying a $1,000,000/$100,000 policy that doesn't trigger in a claim?
