    New FECC Pay Plan

I calculated the pay for 6 different runs , comparing the flat mileage rate to the percentage based pay scale. Based on what I saw, hold off on signing the new contract. 4 of the 6 runs paid considerably less at the percentage rate, and 2 paid slightly better at the mileage rate. The method I...

    Scanners

I bought my scanner online, and received it 5 business days later via FedEx Ground. Shipping to NJ was $9. Clink set up was simple, no install issues at all, and worked as promised. There was a problem with the install on a Windows 8 32-bit laptop. Although I installed the drivers recommended...

Changes to Deadhead to Planned Layover

Excellent points, piatteam. I would expect that the default answer is the one that nets FECC the most revenue. IE, shippers north of the city would fall under the northern 25 mile radius, southern shippers the southern radius. I find the policy to be ultimately self defeating for both FECC...

Changes to Deadhead to Planned Layover

Note that while the original arrangement paid Deadhead (DH) minus 50 miles, plus fuel surcharge (FS) for ALL miles, the new policy pays DH minus 75 miles and FS is paid for DH miles minus 25 miles. Effective April 15.

    software

You're welcome! BTW, the file you need should be on the Data CD, not the Install. And I've got the 2004 verson, which might be different from the 2003. While we're on the topic, have you noticed anything stange about the performance of the GPS receiver? I've been using Delorme since Street...

    software

mcbride, FYI, if you place the Delorme data CD into the drive, use Windows Explore to examine the files on the CD, you'l find another Install (exe) program which lets you load the data onto the hard drive, saving your CD-ROM drive from some extra work. By the way, those were great prices on...

    STANDARD MILEAGE METHOD

I went back to the files and found the page that my ex-accountant sent me re the Standard Mileage Rate. The CCM is mentioned but not by reference number, sorry. Anyway, the gist of the article was that the Standard Mileage deduction is still a grey area. This is from Tax Week, a CCH...

    advise on gps systems

I've been using Delorme Street Atlas for the past 3 or 4 years now, in tandem with their Earthmate GPS receiver. Althought I had to replace the receiver this year ($80), the software works fine with my Dell Inspiron laptop. Most laptops have the memory and processing power to make the software...

    Medical Insurance

Thanks for the quick reply, Sparky. I checked the Mutual of Omaha site, and at least according to that source, their services are not offered in NJ. It's unfortunate, since the BC/BS premium here for the $2500 deductible will be $375/mo on the MSA. NJ mandates a "Community Rate" policy, meaning...

    Medical Insurance

Greetings from the Garden State, where Blue Cross/Shield has just hit me with a 35% rate increase on my MSA (Medical Savings Account) health insurance premium. This pretty much negates any tax advantage for this type of program. In NJ, you are charged the same rate as everyone in the state (by...

    Standard Mileage vs. Actual Expenses

Please address the issue of using standard mileage vs. the actual expense write off. Several "B" unit contractors have recently lost in IRS audits re this deduction. The IRS has issued a Chief Councel Memorandum (CCM) laying down framework for decisions based on the term "for hire," due to lack...
