    FedEx Custom Critical

Hmmm. I will have to check out FedEx Custom Critical. I have a passport but I would have to get a ProMaster or Transit. Being able to run all over the United States and Canada is a big plus.

How can my contract be valid when they aren't giving me loads?

Thanks, Turtle. Could you explain this, "Slow and steady, even in expediting, wins the race"?

POLL Which Sprinter engine - 4 or 6 cylinder in your opinion.

Thanks, Tom. These days, depending on the application and use, good old gas engines have advantages. It's hard for me to swallow spending .50 - .75 cents or more per gallon for diesel for every tankful.

POLL Which Sprinter engine - 4 or 6 cylinder in your opinion.

Now I know about the 4-cyl timing chain in the rear. I will leave that engine alone.

POLL Which Sprinter engine - 4 or 6 cylinder in your opinion.

Tom, Do the ProMasters have the V6 gasoline engine or the 4-cyl diesel? Do the Transits have the 3.7L or the 5-cyl diesel?

Cargo Vans - What is your straight through limit?

Actually, I talked with CEVA about drivers handing off freight.

Sprinter Van Owner/Operator Looking to Run for Multiple Carriers

Thanks, Rocketman, for the post. Weekly pay is very important. Keeping the deadhead miles down and staying busy are concerns of mine as well. When I was an CDL B/OTR Hiker, being contracted to multiple companies definitely was beneficial. 1. Example 1: Carrier A - Trip from Indiana to New...

Cargo Vans - What is your straight through limit?

John, Thanks for the post. That gives me plenty to consider. I am looking to operate within a 300 - 500 mile radius of South Bend, IN. I would be driving solo with a Sprinter/ProMaster/Transit vehicle (nonCDL). That way, I would basically stay in the major freight zones and thus cutting...

Cargo Vans - What is your straight through limit?

Please explain why driving for a carrier with van driving limits is not a good idea. Thanks.

    Looking for a better carrier

Regarding OTR, I am looking to operate within a 300 - 500 mile radius of South Bend, IN. That way, I would basically stay in the major freight zones and thus cutting down on potential wait time. OTR seems risky because after a delivery, one might have to deadhead to another city and wait for...

Thanks for the warning about the lack of runs and the amount of deductions. I will keep that in mind.

    a few more newbie questions

I will remember that: hauling three skids is best in most cases. Thanks.

Thanks, danthewolf00. I surely will keep that size in mind; no rear dualies.

Since January is a slow month, what would be a good month to get started in expediting?

John, This is just my observation about MLJSR1: It seems like he is in location for expediting that really could go either way (Jacksonville, FL). I understand from another veteran expediter that the area north of I - 40 and east of the Mississippi is the best freight areas. In contrast, I...

    Courier work

OK, Turtle. I see. Expediting is certainly different from being a OTR Hiker. I had this experience as an OTR Hiker: Carrier A - Trip from Indiana to New Jersey (estimated 550 - 600 miles). After delivering vehicle, rested overnight, picked up Carrier B load in New Jersey to Southern...
