    Volvo Straight Truck?

Ok, I understand, and running for a fleet owner at first is a very good idea. Just about any standard Volvo tractor could be stretched into a straight truck. But, if you plan to go all out when you are ready and order a brand new factory built truck, things will be a matter of whether Volvo...

    CLUTCH PEDAL VIBRATION

With the 6 and 7 speed syncros, freightchaser, the rattle noise is actually considered normal when the clutch is properly adjusted. Hard to believe, and annoying, but true. You figured out the cure- turn the radio up:-) The big-truck clutches do this a little bit too sometimes.

    CLUTCH PEDAL VIBRATION

How old is your clutch? Did you try getting it adjusted yet to see if that stops the vibes? That problem does sound true to a worn throw-out bearing- basically the clutch assembly has some imbalance. If adjusting it doesn't help, it's going to have to come out and be replaced. -Weave-

    class 8 trucks

That is a sweet looking truck, I have seen you on the road a few times! One thing that is nice about late model repos- one man's loss is another man's gain! Diamler Chrysler Credit has so many right now, they are starting to get a little more liberal with the down payments and financing. Best...

    dash lighting

I'm not familiar with the E350 dash either, but just about all auto parts stores have Haynes or Chilton books for them for around $15. There is a section in the back of them for how to dissassemble the dashes and other interior stuff without marring everything up. It's usually real simple and...

    Volvo Straight Truck?

It does sound like I was being a bit of an #####, so I'll try to clarify a little more. As far as your equipment goes, if you are new, START OUT WITH SOMETHING MODEST! By that I mean a truck under $60k. You will have no trouble finding a nice late model unit for that, and maybe even something...

    NYC

My co. gives an extra $80 to go into any of the bouroughs. This more than covers the tolls, and gives a few extra bucks for the traffic and general aggravation. I still most often leave that area with a headache the size of Alaskax( Just one of those places where if it's not one thing it's...

    Volvo Straight Truck?

Well, to be honest, this is a JOB and I have seen VERY few instances where O/O's who have tried to make a truck into a motor home have lasted. Just go to a truck stop, and try to find any- few exist. Now more than ever trucking is about money and competition, and only the strongest survive...

    Rust Jacking

Okay, I'll give my "Ancient Chinese Secret" away for limiting frame surface rust in harsh salty areas. Spray your truck's frame with WD40 during the winter months. It works wonders for preventing surface rust by repelling both water and salt, and it is cheap- a big $3.00 can will last all...

    Driving in Midwest

I think what Rich means is doing courier work for air freight companies, there are a lot of them in your area. This type of work MIGHT get you home every night, and in many instances you can own your own van and do this sort of thing without having operating authority. -Weave-

    Kids on trips

Simple matter of checking with your company and seeing what their rider policy is. Some say no way, others make you purchase extra insurance, some don't care. Unless for a VERY short period of time, (From your house to the truck stop for fuel and back) I could not at all recommend taking kids...

    Help Me Think This Through

I don't think 25% of the fleet is being wrecked up, but is being lost for various reasons. Some of these can be: 1. Dis-Satisfaction- owner leased elsewhere 2. Owner quit altogether for personal/financial reasons 3. Owner went bankrupt 4. Owner operates seasonally 5. Fleet owners pulled units...

    NYC

WHAT! Any expedite company LOVES anyone form NYC, mainly because nobody else WANTS to go in or out of there. There is quite a bit of expedite freight in and out of NYC! Anyone who is familiar with NYC, especially Manhattan, or is from there is considered a diamond in the expedite business...

SPICER 7 SPEED HA HA !

Oh, no doubt I'd take a big 9 or 10 speed over those syncro jobs for a highway truck. One could almost make an FL70's powertrain feel like a highway job, especially when CAT 3126's are not torque monsters, you can downshift a bit more to keep the revs and HP up on the big hills. The 9 speed...

Here is my class 8 Freightliner Columbia. 360/470 HP Detroit S60, 10 speed, double frame, 24' box. 70" integral air ride cab/sleeper, jake brake. Got it as a repo last June for $56k with only 55k miles on it. It has been working perfectly. -Weave-

    Mercedes Power

Nothing bad yet. I heard (or didn't hear) an MBE4000 in a new Sterling tractor the other day. That thing is SOOOO quiet, I could hear the movement in the air compressor over the sound of the engine at idle. If you think the Detroit S60 is quiet, that MBE has to be 10 times quieter. I swear...

    Rust Jacking

A few times during the year I will take a wire brush to any rust spots on the frame, then spray them with black rust-oleum. This seems to keep the frame looking good all year long. Keeps little problems from becoming big ones. I noticed this year whatever they are using in PA for de-icer is...

    FL-70 Radiator Clogging

The stock Behr plastic tank radiators in FL's last 5 to 6 years under normal use, and then usually have to be replaced. There are a ton of shops that can fabricate a replacement to fit, but in many instances these radiators do not end up working too well for a number of reasons. I guess its...
