how long are you drivers staying out?

Wow, I JUST got off the phone about this very subject. I would think someone like you is a person an owner would kill for. For me though, being out 2 or 3 days at a time is enough. When I hired in I was upfront about it, & different people need different things out of this job. I told em what...

    Border THIS!! =)

I can maybe appreciate how Boston must feel beating the Yankees for a change. For all the times I've crossed the border coming into the US & been frustrated at how I've been treated, it finally felt good to get under this someone elses skin. Maybe I'm a lil vindictive, I dunno, but it sure felt...

    Quebec

I had a run to Quebec. While I wouldnt want to do it again, for a one time run it was something I'm glad I took. I got woken up a lil bit. The Quebec run was good/bad. The bad is easy to get out of the way. I made maybe 250 after expenses for 1400 miles of driving. Now for the good part of...

    Fleet Owner???

I don't have any experience w/ the bigger trucks, D units & such. With vans though, I wouldn't think there's enough income to support 2 people unless it was husband/wife, father/son, something along those lines. Others may disagree w/ me, but from my experience that's what I've come to...

    Slow?

I've been running pretty good these past few weeks. This is my 2nd time around in expediting (I did it from 94-99) & as I recall it, things got going in April or so. I'm wondering where you're based out of. If you're in Michigan/Ohio or areas like that I'd think ya'd have already been running...

    >Hey Danny D, Sounds like you are as patient as I am. A guy >once told me if I was a vulture I'd go out and kill things >instead of waiting around. I can sit in my truck about 24 >hours and then I start to take it apart for something to do. > >This work requires us to be away from home but...

    Canada Canada

I can see both sides of the Canada issue. Living in Michigan, I'd much rather go to Toronto than say Chicago. The odds of hitting a major traffic tie up is less on the 402/401 than 94. Traffic is less congested in Toronto. Though TO's rush hour has it's moments, it's a picnic compared to...

    Canada Canada

In response to message #0 I just got back from a quickie run to Oakville, ONT. Although I don't do a lot of Canada runs, I'm not too enthused about going back again. Going into Canada is a snap. The Canadian Customs folks are, as a rule, friendly and courteous. Coming back to the American side...

    bummed

It's not quite paid off, but my house was only 29K to begin with. So the payment isn't very much. The house/apt. together is less than what a lot of payments on just a home might be. By the way, I haven't had a run in 10 days. Last week it was on me because I had things I needed to do. This...

    How about funny stuff

Different things strike different folks funny. I've always thought it was hillarious when as ya enter a 14 mile construction zone of one lane traffic, the vehicle I get behind is that of one towing a horse trailer. =)

TJ, I'm w/ you on being bored waiting. Like many others, I love to drive but I don't care so much for sitting. Actually, to be more blunt I go flippin bananas if I sit to long in that friggen truck!! =) The above was said w/ a smile & it's an awesome truck when I'm driving it, but a #@%$...

    $ Savings Ideas

I would say the best saving idea is putting synthetic oil in my van for it's oil changes. Yes it's more money, but you don't need to change as often & I'd say I've improved gas milage by about 1.5mpg. I realize there's all kinds of variables to mpg. I think I've done a pretty good job of...

    Canada Canada, here I come

RE: Canada, there I came If you get your FAST card, there's no need for the CDRP card. The CDRP card is basically "half" what the FAST card is. Ie, ya can go into Canada w/ it. I'm guessing most people get their CDRP card first, because when I got my FAST card they told us we could throw away...

    starting in this business

I realize some may challenge me on this. As a rule though, there isn't enough income from a van to support two people from different families. It may work out for a father/son, husband/wife etc, but overall I'd be hesitant to suggest a van income can support two people. Good luck to ya, Danny

    Info on Try Hours

I worked for Try Hours about 10 years ago. They were fine. The reason they were fine though, was in large part due to Chris & John. They have since went to PTL. You may want to consider PTL out of the Toledo, Ohio area. Good luck to ya, Danny

    Any cargo vans getting loads?

If you're near Detroit & aren't getting any action, ya may want to look into another company. We're hitting the busy season here & there's no reason why you should be sitting. Good luck to ya, Danny

    Free Showers!

Terry, WOW!!! That info just rocked. I'll be doing that the next time I hit a Flying J. Thanx a ton for the idea.

    Canada Canada, here I come

oops, If you're going to get your FAST card, then that will take a bit longer. I thought ya meant your CDRP card. I got that before I got my FAST card. That took only a few minutes. The FAST card took a couple of hours. Btw/ since getting my FAST card, I seem to be getting treated a...

Tippin my hat to Flyin J

After going through there a few times & stopping in, I finally ran into the lady who was so nice. Her name is Tonya. I did all of the above suggestions. I told her I didn't expect her to remember me but that I appreciated what she did for me & then went on to let her know what she did. I let...
